Keir Starmer: Save our seas from destructive fishing
Supertrawlers – monster fishing vessels with nets that can fit thirteen jumbo jets inside – threaten whole ecosystems in UK waters that are supposed to be protected.
Like giant bulldozers tearing through forests, their destructive techniques push fish populations towards extinction, while their enormous nets cruelly trap animals like dolphins.
Small-scale sustainable fishing businesses along our coasts simply can’t compete and are forced to close – hollowing out coastal communities and hurting our economy. These giants need stopping.
