Lots of plastic clothing items are designed to be worn just once or twice, before being thrown away. Many end up in Ghana, which has become a “fast fashion graveyard”. Shamefully, the UK is the biggest contributor.

These clothes are often largely made of plastics like polyester that break down into harmful microplastics and release toxic chemicals that put people and wildlife in grave danger.

But there’s hope on the horizon: countries are currently in talks to agree to a Global Plastics Treaty, which could force companies to radically cut their plastic production.
